Alex Trebek Shares Inspiring Message With Those Battling Cancer

February 20, 2020

Alex Trebek continues to feel the love and support from his fans.

The “Jeopardy!” host spoke to Pittsburgh news station WPXI where he praised fans for keeping his spirits high as he battles stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis, which he announced last March.

“Some people would say, ‘That’s a bad deal that Alex has got,'” he said, adding that he’s able to be a champion for others who are dealing with illnesses.

“But there are a lot of people out there who have been informed that they have cancer, they have heart problems, serious other diseases, they have Parkinson’s, whatever, you name it. But they have to deal with it, and that’s what I have to [do],” he said.

He added that there’s been a “great outpouring of warmth and prayerful thoughts coming from people all over America.”

“I had no idea that our show and myself had such an impact on the lives of so many people out there,” the longtime host explained. Trebek has been leading the charge since 1984.

He admitted he returns the positivity by telling fans that they will both end up as "survivors."

Jennifer Tomazic, the anchor who interviewed him on the set of the game show in Culver City, California, noted that “you wouldn’t know he’s in a fight for his life” if you simply watched him at work.

“Many close to him say he’s the first one in the office, at 6 a.m. some days, reading through all the questions and answers and meeting with producers,” she wrote, adding that he was “on point during the tapings” and “had a quick wit for the audience’s questions during commercial breaks.”

She also noticed a glass case at the studio that was filled to the brim with letters and well wishes from the fans Trebek mentioned previously.

Trebek has been outspoken about his battle with the disease. He remains dedicated to hosting the game show as long as his skills “don’t diminish,” but he also has no idea who will replace him when his “Jeopardy!” days are over. He said he’s leaving the choice up to the producers.

As for his plans after “Jeopardy!,” Trebek revealed he wants to''drink” and “work around the house.”
