Alex Trebek is Back to ‘Jeopardy!’ After Cancer Battle

Jeopardy lovers got to see it themselves on Monday night: Alex Trebek is back!

Trebek returned for the premiere of Season 36 of the game show.

“Thank you, ladies and gentleman, and welcome to our show,” Trebek said when the episode started.

“I truly hope you folks have enjoyed revisiting some of our special tournaments throughout this summer. But today, Jeopardy! begins its 36th season on the air and I’m happy to report, I’m still here,” he continued.

Jason Zuffranieri, the returning champion extended his six-game streak during the premiere.

According to PEOPLE, the math teacher from Albuquerque, New Mexico, who had earned $137,300 before Monday’s episode, won his 7th consecutive game.

Zuffranieri won the game with a score of $29,200, bringing his total winnings to $166,500.

The host was seen in a video, announcing the kick-off of filming of Season 36. “It’s another day at the office for me,” he begins.

He reminisces about the James Holzhauer era of last season and continues with the exciting things fans can look forward to this coming season.

Trebek shared back in March that he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and would begin treatment. He also revealed that he would keep working on “Jeopardy!,” despite admitting the challenges that came with that later on.

Later in May, Trebek announced that he was “near remission.”
