Fans Fuming at Harry and Meghan’s Birthday Note to Prince George

They really don’t make it easy to be a royal!

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are under fire from internet-dwelling royal devotees for the comments they left on photos celebrating Prince George’s 6th birthday.

The photos were posted on Sunday by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the Kensington Palace Instagram account.

Under one of the pics, Uncle Harry and Aunt Meghan commented, “Happy Birthday,” from their @SussexRoyal account, adding, “Wishing you a very special day and lots of love!”

Well that doesn’t seem so bad! But royal fans disagreed, with Instagrammers coming out the woodwork to hiss that the comment was too informal and not worthy of the future king.

“He is the future KING. Treat him with respect,” one commenter humphed emphatically. “He is HRH!!!!!!!!!” (Shorthand for His Royal Highness.)

“He is HRH Prince George to you!!!!” another user wrote. “Don’t forget to mention!”

Other users were more lax about the formalities, defending Harry and Meghan.

“They are his uncle and aunt,” wrote one commenter. “No need to write his title. Being sincere is more important.”

Others shared in the Don’t Be So Formal Bro sentiment. Another user wrote, “Stop nitpicking relax. You just want to find fault where there is none. Family is family and how they address each other in public or private is none of your concern.”

The criticism is nothing new, especially for Meghan Markle, who caught flack recently for wanting to watch some tennis in peace.

But it’s not hard to cause rumblings and rattle some cages when you’re a member of that other most regal court -- the Most Influential People on the Internet -- with the likes of Lil Nas X, Cardi, and Ariana.
