During an appearance on I’m Listening: Stay Connected, singer and producer, Lauv opens up to Dr. Chris Donaghue about how his own experiences and struggles with mental health have not only inspired him to speak up and create change around mental health stigmas, but it has also added a deeper level of meaning to his music.

Last year Lauv started the Blue Boy Foundation after being diagnosed with clinical depression and OCD. “I one, really wanted to share my story and two, one of the songs I made called 'Sad Forever,' … I wrote really at my lowest point. I wanted to take proceeds from streams and sales and funnel and distribute them to various mental health organizations,” Lauv says.

Since accomplishing that with his song “Sad Forever,” the journey has allowed the songwriter to expand his work and establish the Blue Boy Foundation even further.

Dr. Chris also brings up Lauv’s “My Blue Thoughts,” which is a project that was started in connection with the Blue Boy Foundation. “My Blue Thoughts” is a blog where fans can share how they are feeling and be vulnerable with their emotions, but during his shows Lauv provides the concert goers with a physical submission box where they can drop in notes that explain their feelings. Afterwards he shares and post these notes from anonymously to normalize having a conversation around mental health.
