Shonda Rhimes Signs Huge Deal With Netflix

What does that mean for shows like Grey's Anatomy?

August 14, 2017

Shonda Rhimes just signed a huge deal with Netflix

Rhimes is the creator of TV shows on ABC like Grey's Anatomy and Scandal. Those shows are huge and bring in a big audience consistently every single season.

So what does this mean for Shonda and ABC? Her new deal with Netflix will mean that she's no longer going to be apart of ABC or its programming. “Shonda Rhimes is one of the greatest storytellers in the history of television,” said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix, in a press statement.

Now if you're a Grey's fan or love Scandal, there's no reason to freak out because all of Shonda's shows will still air on ABC. She will begin producing new series for Netflix while she continues to stay involved in her current broadcast series. So yes, she will still write for the shows she's created.

Does this new deal with Netflix means that Grey's Anatomy will be ending? We already know that Scandal has an end date set. ABC issued this statement about her departure: ” I’m proud to have given a home to what have become some of the most celebrated and talked about shows on television,” said ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey. “With the launch of a new season upon us, fans can rest assured that TGIT remains intact and will be as buzzed about as ever.”
