The opening intro for Sex & The City is so iconic.

You know the scene with Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) bouncing around New York in her tutu dress. To give you a little refresher, here it is:

But can you believe that the tutu dress almost didn’t happen?

The show's creator, Darren Star, just shared the story with Entertainment Weekly. He told the magazine that two separate outfits were being considered for the show's intro. Producers were torn between using the tutu dress and a powder blue dress.

In the "alternate powder blue dress version,"  Carrie doesn’t even get splashed by water. She only trips before seeing the ad for her column. Yet, that was actually the version that a lot of the show's producers wanted to use for the iconic HBO show. See it for yourself:

Costume designer Patricia Field told EW that she was really trying for the "pink tutu version," but she said the other producers didn’t understand the concept. How did she find the tutu? She actually found it in a $5 bin on a showroom floor. Field then re-created four versions of it.

So in the end, the production team gave in to the power of the tutu.

In fact, Darren Star now says that he can't imagine the show without this version of the intro. “It was such a brilliant choice because, in a way, Carrie’s dancing through her life in New York,” he told EW
