Not Every Girl Wanted to Be a Princess

The royal wedding is this weekend and everyone is writing and talking about it being every little girl's dream to be a princess. Jane Fallon took to Twitter to encourage the girls, like me, who grew up wanting to be something else.
If I read one more wedding article that contains the words 'It's every little girl's dream to be a princess'...-- No. It wasn't. It was my dream to be a writer. Or a gymnast. Or a professional tree climber. Or a cat. Never a princess. #TweetYourNonPrincessyLittleGirlDreams

As a child, I wanted to be an explorer or an archologist. Watching Indiana Jones and The Mummy on repeat until my mom hid the movies from me. I had endless books about explorers. Don't get me wrong, I loved Disney too but I, like many other girls, had a different dream.
My four year old daughter wants to be someone who builds seesaws for playgrounds. #TweetYourNonPrincessyLittleGirlDreams

I wanted to be
1. A fighter pilot
2. A doctor that operated only on legs (less messy)
3. A talking tree (after reading the Magic Faraway Tree)
4. A murderous nun (I watched Black Narcissus when I wasn't supposed to, I was 8)
5. A writer #TweetYourNonPrincessyLittleGirlDreams https://t.co/KPnDKABnYh
