Home Cooking and Family Time Helped Zayn Malik Overcome an Eating Disorder and Anxiety Issues

Sometimes we all need some home cooking to clear our heads, right?

Well, home cooking was part of what helped Zayn Malik recover from an eating disorder that he developed while he was still a member of One Direction. The 24-year-old pop star spoke about the eating disorder, his anxiety, and his relationship with Gigi Hadid in a new interview with The Sunday Times Style this week.

Malik, who has spoken openly about the eating disorder in the past, clarified that his eating issues were mostly just a "control thing" while he was dealing with the craziness of being in One Direction.

"It was the one area where I could say, 'No, I'm not eating that'," Malik told The Times.

Malik said that going home after he left 1D helped him overcome the eating issues.

"I came back to the U.K. and spent some time with my mum and got some TLC, and she cooked me food and I got back in touch, mentally, with a lot of the things I'd lost," he said.

As for his battle with anxiety, he no longer has any issues related to anxiety. Malik does hope that speaking openly about his anxiety shows that anyone can suffer from the condition.

"People saw strength in that, and they didn't seem to expect it from a guy, but they expect it from a female, which to me is crazy. We're all human... I don't believe that there should be a struggle with anything that's the truth," Malik told The Times

The singer did say that his girlfriend Gigi Hadid has been super supportive during his struggles.

Speculation is pretty high, by the way, that Zayn could be releasing new music soon. A minute-long video that he posted on Instagram this weekend has fans hoping that new music could be on the way soon. Here's that clip:
