It can be SO tempting to text your ex during the holidays. Sure, you may have survived Christmas without firing off that text message to your ex, but New Year's Eve can present some new challenges in this area.

You could be consuming more alcohol and your emotions may be a little heightened as you reflect on the past year.

So here are four things to remember BEFORE you hit send on that confetti emoji text to your ex this New Year's Eve.

4. They Are Your Ex for a Reason
Drunk dialing your ex won't change whatever reason you two originally ended the relationship for. It's over, and sending a message on New Year's Eve won't fix that.

3. It Doesn't Allow You To Heal
A broken heart takes time to heal, and that is okay. Don't let the holiday change that for you.

In fact, Dua Lipa's smash hit song "New Rules" has some great advice for this.
Don't let him in / You'll have to kick him out again
Don't be his friend / You know you're gonna wake up in his bed in the morning / And if you're under him, you ain't gettin' over him

That's a sobering reminder about what is likely to happen if you send the text to your ex.

2. A New Year Means A Clean Slate
Think about it: do you REALLY want to start the new year with a message to your ex? You only get one chance to start 2018 off on the right foot.

In fact, you should surround yourself by those who love and support you (your friends and family) instead of texting your ex this holiday.

1. It Feeds Your Ex's Ego
Let's face it: after a breakup there's a war to see who is happier. Is your ex doing better off without you? Are YOU doing better off without your ex? It's probably even a RACE to see who can find happiness after the breakup, right?

By sending that message, you've definitely lost one of those crucial battles. Worst part is you've you've fed their ego by showing them you still care on New Year's. So what have you gained here?

BONUS REASON: Texting your ex TOTALLY means all of your friends will give you that "I told you so" message when it doesn't work.

Who wants to HEAR that kind of ridicule on New Year's Day as you nurse your hangover?
