Charlie Puth just shared a ton of new insights about his life and career with Billboard Magazine for a brand new cover story. Yeah, we finally got to hear details about his rumored relationship with Selena Gomez.

Puth skyrocketed to fame with his debut single, "See You Again" in 2015. The track, which appears on the Furious 7 soundtrack as a tribute to the late Paul Walker, is one that Charlie co-wrote, co-produced and performed with Wiz Khalifa. The music video for the song is one of the internet's

The singer, who hails from Rumson, New Jersey, is now 26, and gearing up to release his second studio album. He recently caught up with Billboard Magazine for an intimate interview where he dished on everything from how difficult it is to grow up in the spotlight to sharing details about a relationship with Selena Gomez.

Here are four things we learned from his Billboard interview that was just published:

4. HIS FIRST ALBUM WAS NOT A REFLECTION OF HIS STYLE - Puth revealed that his debut album, Nine Track Mind, was not a reflection of his style at all. In fact, during the interview he managed to laugh at the album's incredibly low rating at MetaCritic. "I didn't feel like an artist until "Attention" came out. He says "Attention" was his way of finally doing what he wanted, according to the Billboard cover story.

3. HIS UPCOMING ALBUM, VOICE NOTES, HAS A LOT OF R&B INFLUENCE - Charlie says that he is channeling the "dark R&B" of the late 1980s. He says artists like Babyface were influences. If his recent release with Boyz II Men on "If You Leave Me Now" is any indication, the sound of R&B is alive and well in his new works.

2. CHARLIE HAD A HARD TIME STAYING GROUNDED EARLY ON IN HIS CAREER - In the interview, Charlie reflects on how quickly his career took off. He says he was  "super-starring out a little too much," as he hung with celebrities like Jason DeRulo. Puth says he was attending a lot of parties, smoking a lot of marijuana. and going a little crazy. It was Charlie's mom who told him "you’re losing touch with why you got here," and that sounds like it was a real wake-up call for the star.

1. A BRIEF FLING WITH SELENA GOMEZ "MESSED HIM UP" - We had heard rumors that the pair were dating in 2016 (after they released "We Don't Talk Anymore" together), but nothing was confirmed at the time. Puth now says they had a "short-lived" but "very impactful" fling. "It really messed me up," Puth tells Billboard. He explains more about the fling in the interview here.

VoiceNotes, which is Charlie's second studio album, will drop later this year. Charlie will hit the road in support of the album with Hailee Steinfeld as well this summer.
