This may be one of the oddest television casting decisions made in recent memory. The hit CBS show “Kevin Can Wait” fired Erinn Hayes this week, and they hired Leah Remini as a series regular.

The move is a bit surprising because the freshman comedy was incredibly successful last season. In fact, the show averaged more than 9 million viewers last year.

Hayes played the role of Donna Gable on the CBS show. Donna was the wife of Kevin James’ character, Kevin Gable. Gable is a retired cop.  Well, Hayes tweeted this weekend that she was let go from the show.

CBS says that they are simply going in a different “creative direction” with the show. They said it has nothing to do with Hayes' performance.

This marks a huge reunion for Kevin and Leah. Remini played the role of James’ wife on “The King of Queens” for 9 seasons.

Remini did appear as a guest star as an undercover cop on the show earlier this year. Variety reports that Remini will be playing that role now as a series regular. It’s not clear how it will all play it out in the show’s plot.
