We were all baffled when CBS announced that Erinn Hayes had been let go from the CBS hit comedy, Kevin Can Wait, but now Kevin James is trying to clear things up a little bit.

James told the New York Daily News this weekend that they were running out of ideas to “drive the show forward.”

Hayes played the role of Donna Gable (Kevin’s wife) on the show, which seemingly had great ratings in its first season.  So it was surprising that the show would fire one of its stars.

Shortly after firing Hayes from the show, the network announced that James’ former King of Queens co-star, Leah Remini, would be joining the cast as a series regular this year. Remini appeared in the show’s first season as a guest star. Her character was Kevin’s former cop partner.

Kevin James told the Daily News that the show needed more drive, and he had worried that if the show gotten through its second season that there would not be a third one.

James shared more insights with the New York Daily News about the show’s future, how his character will handle parenting, and his relationship with Leah Remini. Check out those comments by clicking here.
