Bruno Mars wanted to make sure tonight's television special, Bruno Mars: 24K Magic Live at the Apollo, wasn’t a traditional video concert.

"When this TV special idea happened it would have been much easier for us to just put some cameras up like one of these tour concerts that we're doing, but I just didn't feel like that was enough" Mars told our station station KLUC-FM in Las Vegas.

Listen here as Mars speaks about the concert:

Bruno serves as the co-executive producer on the broadcast, and he says the signficance of the Apollo Theater was not lost on him.

"I grew up watching Showtime at the Apollo," he shared. "I wanted to do something special."

As a result, Mars even strived to make sure the audience was filled with a diverse array of people.

“We wanted everybody in the community to come out to the show,” the super star told “So we passed out tickets as we met people in different locations. You’ll see them in the audience at the Apollo.”

Bruno Mars: 24K Magic Live at the Apollo airs tonight (Nov 29) at 10 p.m. EST on CBS.
