Millennials Are Terrible Tippers

June 19, 2018

So us millennials have been accused of ruining a lot of things, but this one is unacceptable! A study from found that two-thirds of millennials tip less than 20% at restaurants; that’s compared to about half of people over age 38 who tip at least 20%.

Also, about 10% of my fellow millennials have me shaking my head because they don’t tip at all. I’m personally of the mindset that if you can’t tip at a restaurant, you shouldn’t be eating out at all. To me, tipping says more about you as a person than it does the quality of the service. But at the same time, does that same mentality exist when it comes to other services that offer a tipping option?

The way we spend money is different with us being so reliant on technology and shopping online. The etiquette around tipping may also be different with services like Uber and Lyft...the example USA Today had was a woman saying it’d be unreasonable to tip 20% on a $60 Uber ride.

But even if it’s just a few bucks, every little bit counts.
