Today, June 21st is another one of those ridiculous, self-created holidays. It's #SelfieDay! 

So in honor of this special day, I decided to dig up some random facts that you may or may not have known about selfies. Lord knows people take enough of them and share them constantly on social media.

1. Women take 55.2% of all selfies. So yes, that means women take more selfies than men. 

2. In 2013, Oxford Dictionaries named selfie the word of the year! 

3. In 2016, 70 people died while taking a selfie and that number is on the rise. These selfies that end up causing death have been nicknamed "killfies"!

4. The earliest known photographic self-portrait (selfie) was taken by Robert Cornelius in 1839.

5. According to Google, 24 million selfies were uploaded to social media last year. 

6. In a lifetime, the average person will take 25,000 selfies. Wow!!!

7. The countries that take the most selfies are Australia, the US, and Canada! 

8. Kylie Kenner is currently the celebrity with the most selfies shared on Instagram. 

9. Millenials spend an average of one hour a week taking and uploading selfies on Instagram.

10. Men Who Post Selfies Are More Likely To Be Narcissistic Or Psychopathic!

I bet you didn't know all of those little facts about selfies. I think it's safe to say that the selfie-snapping trend won't be ending anytime soon.
