Google Is Helping Us Look Smarter On Social Media

April 7, 2017

Social Media is great because it allows us to keep in touch with people far away. It also allows us to be exposed to things we otherwise wouldn't like news, music, and other things from around the World. Platforms like Facebook and Twitter have changed the news game so much. Instead of going to a newspaper's website or tuning into a local or national news station, if the news is big enough, it's probably already all over social media.

But with the good comes the bad. People are so quick to just click the share button before looking into the validity of a news story. A recent study from Stanford found that 50% of people believe the news stories they saw if it was about the person they were supporting in the election. Eek!

Unfortunately, fake news stories aren't going to go away anytime soon, but Google is trying to do their part to help people validate stories before they spread rumors and false information. The new feature is called a fact check tag!

This is something you will see in your Google search where each article or link will have fact check tag that says mostly true or false. It will also provide who did the fact checking!

Just because Google has created this amazing technology doesn't mean the masses will use it, unfortunately. Hopefully, it will start to impact the resharing of fake news.
