Guy Starts GoFundMe To Buy $15k Ring For Girlfriend?

April 6, 2017

GoFundMe is a great way for people in need to get some help from family and friends all over the World. People start campaigns to help with emergency situations or charities. But as you can imagine, there are some people that use the funds raising website for some pretty ridiculous things.

GoFundMe is trending today on social media because a guy started a campaign to raise money to buy his girlfriend an engagement ring. And this isn't just any engagement ring. The guy, William Oliver, is hoping to raise $15,000 to buy his woman her dream ring!!!

I'll give you a second to pick your jaw up off the floor. Does anyone else find this ridiculous?

Here's a piece of his plea to family, friends, and random people on the internet to help his cause:

"My approach is a little different. We have friends, family, and colleagues that don’t mind passing up a drink or a sandwich to help out. Anything helps. All proceeds will go to the purchase of a beautiful engagement ring one that WE ALL can be proud of. Call me crazy, but Love is Free Not Engagement Rings and Weddings."

As someone who has been engaged three times, yes you read that right, I can tell you that the cost of the ring doesn't matter. Any jerk can buy a huge ring and treat you like crap. Also, is William's girlfriend one of those chicks that are demanding a ring that is a particular carat size and clarity? $15k is a lot to ask for an engagement ring!

Why not just buy a $3k ring and upgrade one day? I think the proposal and the speech he gives when he gets down on one knee are far more important than spending this crazy amount for a ring he apparently could never afford. And if the ring ad its size is what matters to you or her, you should seriously reconsider taking this step. If you think a $15k engagement ring is expensive, try going through a divorce.

I did a little searching on Facebook and found someone named William Oliver that just got engaged with a very large ring. Not sure if it's the same guy, but as of right now his capaign has only raise just over $600!
