Matt Lauer Fired from 'The Today Show'

November 29, 2017

The World was shocked to learn this morning that NBC and The Today Show fired Matt Lauer after over a sexual misconduct allegation. Savannah Guthrie and Hoda made the tearful announcement first thing this morning.

As you can see in the video the news was shocking to them as well. The allegations allegedly came down Monday night and there was reasonable proof that Lauer had acted inappropriately and he was terminated.

Andy Lack, NBC News Chairman, made this statement about Lauer's termination.

"On Monday night, we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer. It represented, after serious review, a clear violation of our company's standards. As a result, we've decided to terminate his employment."

I've seen some mixed opinions on social media about Lauer's firing. Many people are asking how someone can be accused of sexual misconduct and fired almost immediately. NBC is a huge company. It's safe to assume that they investigated the claims and found them to be true. Lauer was the anchor on The Today Show for twenty years and the show's ratings were consistently number one. They wouldn't just fire him without proof that the woman's claims were true.

Now that the dust has settled a bit, it's come out that The New York Times had been investigating claims against Lauer for the past few weeks and it appears that there were multiple victims.

I said it before and I will say it again. I think in 2018 we are going to see a huge push in the workplace to give employees more education on what is and what is not acceptable behavior in the workplace. Sexual Harrasment training will probably be revamped for the new year with all of these accusations coming out across multiple industries.
