Netflix Ends 'House of Cards' After Kevin Spacey Scandal

October 31, 2017

If you're a fan of the Netflix original series House of Cards I have some bad news for you. This by far has been one of my all-time favorite shows ever. It's so well written, and the actors just fit the roles so well.

So the bad news, Netflix has decided to end the series after season 6 which will air next year after the allegations about star/producer Kevin Spacey came out about trying to seduce Anthony Rapp when he was just 14-years-old at a party.

Spacey issues an apology, well kind of, yesterday. But most people were not pleased by his statement.

He didn't really take ownership for what he did and instead used the opportunity to come out as gay. I almost feel like this tactic was a way to deflect from what he did to Rapp thirty years ago. It was poor taste all around and Netflix clearly isn't having it.

Although I love the show, I love that Netflix is standing up to people like Spacey. That show makes so much money and is one of their biggest shows created. But Netflix would rather part ways and lose the money than work with a man like that! Bravo! I think most people have been sexually harassed and a good number have also experienced sexual assault. It's hard to stand up to someone in power because so many times it's the victim that suffers and loses their job and livelihood.

I think that actions like this by big brands and companies like Netflix will help empower those that experienced sexual assault, abuse, or harassment to come forward. Speaking out can be scary, but doing it allows others to tell their truth and expose those that wronged them and maybe behavior like this will end. #MeToo

If you've been a victim and feel like you have nowhere to turn, there are resources for you.
