Netflix Spending Billions in 2018 On Original Content

Best. News. Ever!

October 17, 2017

There seems to be a lot of news lately about TV shows and movies leaving Netflix. One of the most significant announcements was that ABC/Disney was going to create their streaming service and their programming would eventually be taken off of Netflix. But there's no need to panic just yet because it will still be available through the end of 2018.

This year the streaming giant spent $6 billion on creating, developing, and producing their content. They seem to be planning for all of Disney's content to be dropped because, in 2018, they are upping their spending on original content creation.

I've you haven't jumped on any of the original Netflix series bandwagons yet, you should. I love House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, and Narcos. And I know there are still so many other shows I have yet to watch that are on my list. Netflix said, "that 25 percent of its total content spending was now dedicated to original programming, and that it expected that figure to grow."

And that is precisely why they are willing to spend more on creating original programming. With less and fewer people subscribing to Cable and premium channels like HBO, this is their chance to corner that marker of consumers.

I guess their budget increases to make more original content is the reasoning the pricing went up last week.
