New Radar Can Detect People That Text And Drive

April 11, 2017

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. More and more people are being injured or killed in car accidents because a driver was otherwise preoccupied using their phone or something else.

If you text and drive you really need to stop. Not only is it extremely dangerous to take your focus off of the road because it takes a split second for a terrible accident to happen, but it's also illegal to text and drive. But law enforcement officials are working on a new way to put an end to texting and driving.

Virginia-based company Comsonics has created this new radar gun to catch those that are behind the wheel and texting at the same time. The new radar gun would pick up the radio frequencies that are given out by your phone when you are sending a text message. But what if you have multiple people in the car with you and they are texting too? How can this new technology know for sure the text is coming from the driver's phone and not a passenger? That part of the technology is still in development.

As of now, this new technology can let officers know someone is texting in the car. If they notice you driving erratically or swerving, it could be grounds for them to pull you over and see if you are in fact texting while driving.
