Oversharing Vacation Photos On Social Media Can You Freebies

If it's free, it's for me!

October 6, 2017

Social media allows everyday people to share and sometimes even overshare every detail of their lives. What did you have for lunch? For certain people, I bet you can find a picture of it on their Instagram accounts. But what about the people that post every single second and detail from their amazing vacation online? It may seem like they are bragging and for some, this may be the case but others are posting to get freebies while they travel.

Wait, posting photos and videos can get you free stuff? How?

Hotel and resort brands love seeing people post positive feedback, beautiful photos, and experiences on social media. And many big brands are watching out for content you may be sharing.

Marriott has even launched a point system called PointsPlus for its guests. Members could earn points for posting on Twitter, checking in on Facebook and sharing a snap on Instagram. According to Marriott, each post is worth 25 points and they can be exchanged for experiences.

The more you post and engage, the more you can get!

You can also get a surprise while staying along with your points just because. Here are a few other hotel brands that a rewarding guests for all of their social media love.

-InterContinental Hotels Group Rewards Club members earn points for purchases in the hotel restaurant, gift shop, spa and other on-site venues.

-Starwood has Crossover Rewards with Delta Air Lines. Starwood Preferred Guests can earn Starpoints when they fly Delta, and Delta frequent fliers can earn Skymiles when they stay at a Starwood property.

-Club Carlson, the Carson Rezidor loyalty program, has a new "Be the Bright Spot" program that lets hotel staff give bonus points or elite status to "inspirational" frequent guests.

These rewards are essentially the same as the comps you get when staying and playing as a Casino with a reward program except your social media posts earn you the rewards. And why not reward people for essentially giving your hotel free advertising? It's their posts and pictures that may influence someone else to book a stay.

So next time you travel, share away and reep the benefits if they are offered.
