A Quarter of People Call Off of Work Because of a Pet

Have you ever used this excuse?

If you have a pet you likely treat it as if it's a member of your family. When the holidays come around, there are always gifts under the tree for them. If you were to look in your camera roll on your phone, you may even have more photos of your pet than your spouse. No judgment here.

I believe that a house is not a home without a pet. We go the distance for our pets making sure all of their needs are met and then some.

But besides being a faithful companion, pets are also a reason people call off from work. According to a new study, a quarter of pet parents have lied to their boss about taking their pet to the vet. 65% of people lied to their boss and used another reason to call in sick because they feared that a sick pet or a trip to the vet wouldn't be considered valid to their boss.

We love our pets so much that 39% of the 2,000 people polled have taken a day off to care for a sick pet, while 27% have worked from home to take care of them.

My cats are like my children so I worry about them and if I think something is really wrong with them I will do whatever it takes to get them to the vet ASAP.

I think the most surprising finding from this research is the number of people that will skip out on plans with their friends to stay home with their pets. A whopping 30% of people said they have canceled plans to spend time with their pets instead.
