Reminder: Spring Ahead This Weekend

March 10, 2017

Get ready to hear all the people complaining beginning Sunday morning and probably for the next two or so weeks. Sunday morning is when we move the clocks ahead an hour and essentially lose an hour of sleep.

Sunday marks the beginning of Daylight Saving Time, and while losing an hour of sleep can be rough, there are so much more benefits to losing an hour.

-The jump forward in time pushes sunrise and sunset by an hour from the day before and means an end to dark winter nights, as evenings will see more light.

-The official spelling is Daylight Saving Time, not Daylight SavingS Time. (Now you know)

-For the U.S. and its territories, Daylight Saving Time is NOT observed in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, and Arizona.

-Thanks to digital devices most clocks will change automatically. Things like your stove and microwave will still need to be manually switched to reflect the new time.

If you are all that concerned about losing that hour of sleep on Saturday into Sunday you can always go to bed an hour early. And just think how great it will be to get out of work and have even more time to enjoy the beautiful sunlight!
