Can Your Dog Help You Get Better Sleep?

Sleep is so important for both our physical and mental health! If you aren't getting enough sleep, eventually it will start to catch up with you causing you issues with your heart, concentration, mood, and more. 

For some people, like me, falling and staying asleep can be a real challenge. I need to take my prescribed sleep medication plus melatonin and the bedroom needs to be a certain temperature and sometimes I still struggle. Plus, my fiance snores so badly. Thankfully, he's on the road to getting that fixed.  But there's a study that may have just the trick to help me sleep. 

According to the findings, women may sleep better with a dog in the bed rather than another human. Does the dog snore because that would be a problem. 

It's actually not just dogs that can help with sleep. Just under 1000 women were polled with 55 percent sharing the bed with one dog and 31 percent sharing the bed with one cat. Sleeping with a pet can improve sleep overall because of stronger feelings of comfort and security. 

Your sleep can be improved even if you aren't a woman according to a new study from the Mayo Clinic. They found that every participant slept measurably better with their dog in their room - it didn't matter about the dog's size, nor how much they moved around in the night. The dog can be in the bed with you or just sleeping somewhere in the room. Either way, you sleep better.
