Winter Storm Diego is heading to the Southeast this weekend. While it's still a bit early to know exact snowfall amounts, the weather people are predicting we will get at least a few inches here in Charlotte. I even heard one local meteorologist say that "this could be the winter storm you tell your kids and grandkids about." Wow!

Snow is beautiful and often times gets us out of work and school. But snow can be dangerous too.

If you're planning to head outside for some fun in the snow make sure you bundle up. And if you'll be including your dog in the snowy fun make sure you protect them from the elements too. Many dogs love the snow and want to get outside and run through it and roll around in it. But there are few things you need to consider to keep your dogs safe during snowy weather.

1. If it's too cold for you to be outside, it's also too cold for your pets too!

2. Make sure you towel dry your dog after they come in from the snow so their skin doesn't become irritated and dry.

3. Wash your dog's paws and stomach after each walk. Ice melt and brine contain chemicals that can cause paws to sting and become chapped.

4. Depending on your dog's breed, you may need to dress them in a sweater or even jacket to protect them and keep them warm.

5. Check your dog's paw pads for dryness and cracks. You can use a pet-safe moisturizer or buy your dog booties to wear out in the elements to further protect their delicate paws.

Remeber you can have a lot of fun while still keeping your pets safe.
