Did you know that a quarter of people will fail or give up entirely on their New Year's Resolution after only the first week? Is it a lack of willpower to stick to a diet? Or maybe we are setting the bar too high? Here are some tips how successfully stick to your resolution this year!

I read an article yesterday somewhere on the vast interwebs that said on 8% of people are successful in completing what they set out to accomplish with their New Year's resolution! 8%... seems so sad! Oh, and 80% of people will fail at their resolution by February! So how can we be more successful for 2019?

Here are ten tips:

1. Focus on what you want - don’t just go with what’s trendy.

2. Document your journey - charts, spreadsheets, journals and other means of tracking your progress

3. Have a realistic goal in mind and a plan on how you can accomplish the goal!

4. If possible, make only one resolution - changing a lot of things at once is more difficult.

5. Go public - tell your friends, family, social networks about your goals, which will increase your fear of failure.

6. Post Your accomplishments on social media to keep your self-accountable and motivated.

7. Don't feel guilty if you slip up. Tomorrow's another day to get back to it!

8. Break your goal into manageable, concrete steps with specific deadlines. Baby steps are so much more attainable than grand plans.

9. Don’t re-visit past failures, but focus on new resolutions instead. It's a new year and a new chance to accomplish these goals.

10. Whenever you make progress on the steps towards your goal, give yourself a small reward. For example, if your resolution is losing weight, reward yourself with a small gift once you hit your first milestone of say 10-pounds lost.

Here's to more than 8% of people being successful at crushing their resolutions for 2019. You can do it.
