Too Much Facebook Time Could Be Bad For Mental Health

February 6, 2017

How much time do you spend on Facebook and other social media platforms? If you're spending a lot of time, it could be harmful to your mental and physical health.

There are some things to keep in mind when viewing what other people share on social media.

1. Many people use Instagram filters or other APPs to make themselves appear flawless. Everyone including celebrities have flaws. Don't be fooled.

2. People choose what they share. Most people opt to share the photos that make them look the best or the best places they go to dinner. Rarely will you see someone share the cup of easy mac they are eating along with their cat on a Friday night.

3. Perception isn't reality! It looks like they are in the happiest relationship or that they only go to super high-end places. Again, there's another side of the story we aren't seeing.

A study was conducted by the University of California and found that all the updates and liking of posts can take a toll on us. Mostly the study found that the more likes you gave out, the worse off you were mentally.

I think a lot of people use social media as an escape route from their crappy life. It's the same reason we watch reality TV, we want a break from our own drama and can get that taking in other's lives.
