Walmart Under Fire For Using Slur On Website

July 18, 2017

Walmart is one of the biggest retailers in the country, and they are in some hot water for something posted on their website.

It was a description of a brown cap that caught one man's attention. He took a screen shot and tweeted it out, and it has since gone viral. Eek.

The tweet below does not show the racial slur in the description.

You would think a huge corporation like Walmart would have many people that read over website content before it goes live. But maybe not? Or maybe that person was a disgruntled employee that took it upon themselves to create a huge PR nightmare?

Walmart has said that product descriptions are "provided by manufacturers, suppliers, and others, and has not been verified by us.” So I guess that makes sense that it slipped through the cracks.

Wal-Mart apologized for the ad in a statement via social media.

"We are very sorry and appalled that this third party seller listed their item with this description on our online marketplace," Wal-Mart said via Twitter. "It is a clear violation of our policy and has been removed, and we are investigating the seller to determine how this could have happened."

The latest update on the story is that the seller is a third party seller on the site and their account has been suspended.
