What Is It Like to Fly Into Hurricane Irma?

September 7, 2017

North Carolina officially is under a State of Emergency as of 8 am ahead of Hurricane Irma! She's still a category 5 Hurricane with 180mph sustained winds.

Now is the time to prepare and get supplies in order like canned food, water, batteries, flash lights, and even a generator if you can find one. I was at the Harris Teeter on East Blvd this morning and the water aisle was almost empty. They did have two palettes of water at the front of the store. I am hoping to grab a case or two after work.

It looks like Irma will hit South Florida, but that's still not 100%. It could ride up to the East of Florida and have a direct impact on the coast of SC.

This is a massive storm, and I've seen many meteorologists say that they've never seen anything like it. Here's a look at what it's like for Hurricane Hunters to fly into Irma and through the eyewall.

I would have thought the flight would have insane turbulance! I am really surprised at how calm it is. Here's a look from the outside of the plane. It's not calm at all!

Are you getting your plan ready just in case it impacts the area?
