What's the Age People Are Most Likely to Get Divorced?

June 22, 2017

I don't think anyone puts on the big white dress and gets married knowing that their union will end in divorce. Sadly, the divorce rate in this country is still pretty high although not as high as it was about ten years ago. Remember when 50% of marriages ended in divorce? Now it's dipped to only 42%. This may be in part that people are now waiting until they are older to get married and some people are just not getting married, but opt to be in long-term committed relationships.

There's lots of good news for marriage.

People are staying married longer than years past and the chance of divorce once a couple hits their 20th Anniversary is also decreasing. Yay!

So what's the magic age that we are most likely to get divorced?

According to a study from ONS, the age range that people are most likely to end their marriages is between 45-49. I wonder if this has anything to do with the whole idea of a midlife crisis? Or maybe as that milestone birthday of turning 50 gets closer, people start to reevaluate their lives and make changes.
