LISTEN: Harry Styles Releases First Single From His Solo Career

By: Joe Hyer

April 7, 2017

Harry Styles just released the first single from his solo career, and it sounds drastically different than the Styles that we knew from One Direction.

The song, which is titled "Sign of the Times," sort of has a 1970s pop-rock feel to it. It would, of course, probably be the perfect anthem for the end of the world.

The track sure sounds like it has been influenced by other rock music greats. As one Billboard critic describes it, "the memories of British rock history shoot off like fireworks -- spanning from late-period Beatles to Bowie to Listen Without Prejudice-era George Michael to Suede to Robbie Williams and even early Coldplay."

Harry Styles has also acknowledged the 1970's vibe that the song has to in some interviews. He said that he was definitely influenced by the music that his parents played when he was growing up.

"Sign of the Times" is the first track off of Style's upcoming solo album. There is no official word on when that album will be released, but it is expected to come out soon.

Styles actually went to Jamaica for two months to work on the album. "I just wanted to not be somewhere that I'd get distracted... liked being away from everything and doing it like that," he told British media.

Harry thanked fans for their support of the new song on Twitter early Friday morning:

Styles will be the musical guest on NBC's Saturday Night Live on April 15. That episode will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon.
