Mariah Carey just announced that she has launched her own record label, Butterfly MC Records. The label's first project will be a studio album from Mariah herself due out "later this year."

"I am putting my heart and soul into making more new music," Carey said in a press release. "I am so thrilled for this next chapter and to continue working with, and for, everyone that I love."

It has been almost three years since Carey's last album, Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse. The new album will be the 47-year-old pop star's fifteenth studio album.

Mariah already has a busy year planned. She'll be touring with Lionel Richie and returning to her Las Vegas residency this summer.

Butterfly MC Records will be a joint venture with Epic Records. The exact terms of the deal are not clear.
