NBC has named Tyra Banks as the new host of the hit show, America's Got Talent. Howie Mandel, who is one of the show's judges, made the announcement on social media late Sunday (March 12).

Tyra Banks responded on Twitter saying that she was very excited for the new gig.

The show's most recent host, Nick Cannon, resigned last month after saying that was threatened for making a racial joke about the show (and network) during the taping of his Showtime special which was titled Nick Cannon: Stand Up, Don’t Shoot. He made the announcement on Facebook.

Banks has plenty of experience in terms of working on a reality television competition show. She created, executive-produced, and hosted America’s Next Top Model for 22 seasons. Believe it or not, Tyra Banks will actually be the fourth host in the history of America's Got Talent. Regis Philbin hosted the show's first season in 2006, and Jerry Springer hosted seasons 2 and 3. Nick Cannon hosted from season 3 through season 11.

The new season of America's Got Talent will premiere on NBC this summer.
